The short version
The calculators run entirely in your browser — the appliances you select and the wattages you see are never sent to our servers. We aim to collect as little as possible: aggregate, cookie-less analytics where enabled, plus an email address only if you deliberately give us one.
Calculator inputs
All sizing calculations happen client-side in your browser. Your appliance selections, generator ratings and results are not transmitted, stored or logged by us.
Analytics
When enabled, we use privacy-friendly analytics (Plausible) to count page views and anonymous usage events such as “a calculator was used”. This tooling does not use cookies, does not collect personal data, does not follow you across sites, and stores no identifier for you. We see aggregate counts only.
If Google Analytics 4 is configured, it loads only if you accept the consent banner. Until you accept, nothing from Google loads and no data is sent anywhere (Google Consent Mode v2, everything denied by default). If you accept, Google Analytics sets its own cookies (e.g. _ga) and collects usage data such as pages visited, approximate location and device type, processed by Google under its own privacy policy. Declining is remembered and the banner will not ask again. To change your mind later, clear this site’s data in your browser.
Email sign-up
If you request the outage prep checklist, your email address is sent directly from your browser to Buttondown, the email service that acts as our data processor for the list (see the Buttondown privacy policy). It is used solely to deliver the checklist and occasional site updates. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you permanently. We do not sell or share subscriber lists.
Advertising & affiliate links
Pages may carry display ads and clearly-marked affiliate links (see the affiliate disclosure). If display ads are enabled, the ad network (e.g. Google AdSense) may set its own cookies and collect data under its own policy — consult the ad provider’s privacy policy for details. Affiliate links contain a referral tag but transmit nothing about you from this site beyond the click itself.
Cookies
The site itself sets no cookies. Your analytics consent choice is stored in your browser’s localStorage (not a cookie, never transmitted). Google Analytics sets cookies only after you accept the consent banner; third-party ad providers, when enabled, may set their own as described above.
